A late update

It's been a long time since I updated the portfolio now, but much has happened! I have my degree and started a new job as a marketing coordinator and graphic designer, and after that the time has really just passed by. This week I received some good news, that my thesis has been appointed Marketing Essay of the Year by Maro. On Thursday I will receive the prize at the Agda gala, which I very much look forward to!
Back to reality (a typical fall headline)

I am slowly beginning to realize that the time has come for rain boots rather than for sandals, and that it's also about time to return to the digital life from this summer's update vacation. Some wonderful news: in about 49 hours I have had my final presentation of my thesis on "Strategies and messages in CSR communication" and therefore have finished my university studies. Ready for this fall's new challenges, in other words!
Summer and vacation time... or?

One can see that Linköping is not a summer town. The city center is empty in the evenings (except for the outdoor tavernas, possibly) and you want to go swimming, you will have to drive for many miles before you get to a lake that's good enough. If I had some vacation I would probably stay in another city than this. But for my part, there still is a little work on the essay to be done during this week, and planning for the fall. After that, I will go to a very small mountain village in Greece, because even an essay writer may need a little vacation when the air stands still in Sweden.
Time for the graduation event

Tomorrow, me and my classmates say farewell to our time at Graphic Design and Communication by inviting to 13:51, a graduation event which will reflect our background, our expertise and our future plans. Per Öhlin, author of Fuck Logic, will come to us and talk about creativity - it'll be really interesting to hear what he believes is lurking in the human subconscious that can help us create effective communication. Hope to see you there!

Right now I'm in the middle of my thesis, which I have chosen to write about corporate social responsibility (CSR) and how the company communicates their CSR initiatives to consumers. A well implemented CSR strategy can certainly strengthen a company's brand, but when you learn more about the subject it becomes clear how important it is to start from scratch, and think before you say too much. It is easy to believe that the consumer buys promises of environmental and social responsibility without thinking twice, but in fact, they are a group that really recognize when it's all just a surface or a marketing ploy. I think it's interesting to see how companies should communicate the good things they do for the environment and society in a way that is understood and accepted by the consumer - in a few weeks, I have hopefully come closer to an answer on how it can be done in a good way!
